The question we are asked more than any other is some version of: I have never camped, will I cope? The answer is almost always yes — and a good number of our guests arrive having not slept in a tent since the seventies.
The tents
We use tents designed for four people and only ever put two in them. If you are travelling solo you get one to yourself, at no single supplement.
They go up in a few minutes, we show you how on the first afternoon, and the crew is always there to help. Inside you get a 70mm mattress and a pillow — you bring a sleeping bag, or buy one from us for $50.
The inner tent is fully meshed, so on a warm night you can drop the fly and sleep looking straight up at the stars without a mosquito getting near you. Most guests end up doing this by about the third night.
The food
This surprises people. Our crew cook on BBQ plates, in camp ovens, over gas and directly on the fire — roasts, stir-fries, casseroles, and dessert more nights than not. Damper and fire-baked apple pie make regular appearances.
Tell us about dietary requirements when you book and we will adjust the menu. It is far easier for us to plan for it than to improvise at a campsite four hours from the nearest shop.
The evenings
Most nights follow the same shape: arrive, set up, swim if there is water, then eat as the light goes. Afterwards the fire, a briefing on tomorrow, and whatever conversation the group falls into.
Most campsites have flushing toilets and hot showers. Bring a head torch — you will want it for finding your way back to the tent.
