Your questions, answered
The things guests ask us most, grouped by topic. If your question is not here, call or email — we would rather answer it before you book.
Your tour
What is included, where you sleep and how the days are paced.
Comfortable camping, most meals, all national park and station entry fees, camping and permit costs, 4WD coach travel and experienced guides.
Broome loop tours also include a free helicopter flight over Mitchell Falls and a Lake Argyle cruise. Beyond two or three meals bought at restaurants or stations along the way, there is little need to open your wallet on tour.
In spacious tents designed for four people, but only ever shared by two — or one if you are travelling solo, at no single supplement.
We provide 70mm camping mattresses and a pillow; you bring a sleeping bag, or buy a new one from us for $50. The inner tent is fully meshed, so you can drop the fly and sleep under the stars without the mosquitoes.
Coastal tours also include two nights in accommodation, typically at Geraldton and Kalbarri.
Most days include a walk to reach the gorges and lookouts. Some are ten minutes each way; the longest run to about an hour each way, usually with a swim and a snack in the middle.
You need to be comfortable walking a few kilometres regularly over uneven rock. If you are a slower walker you may not finish every walk — the gorges are beautiful regardless, and our guides will help you plan your day.
On Mitchell Falls, slower walkers are best flying in both directions. We include the flight one way; your guide will let you know if they think the walk will be a stretch.
Typically 16 to 19 guests, with a tour leader and a guide on every departure.
We keep the business deliberately small so the trips stay personal — the owners still lead tours themselves.
Yes. A good number of our guests have never camped before, and plenty have not put up a tent in decades.
The tents are quick to pitch, we show you how on the first afternoon, and the crew is always on hand to help.
Getting ready
Packing, weather, food and the practical details.
Pack light — a soft bag under 15kg, plus a small day pack for water, snacks and a camera on walks.
Bring a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses, worn-in walking shoes or all-terrain sandals, a head torch, swimmers and a towel, thongs for camp, and warm layers for the evenings. A beanie is worth it around July.
Every guest receives an information pack with a full suggested packing list before departure.
We only tour in the dry season, so you can expect fine, warm days and cool nights with low humidity.
Days generally sit between 26 and 31°C, dropping to about 12 to 16°C overnight. Shorts and t-shirts by day; long pants and a warm top around the fire at night.
Swimming is one of the highlights, and there are opportunities most days — crystal-clear pools, hot springs and waterfalls you can stand beneath.
We only ever swim where it is safe to do so. Your guides know these waterholes well and will tell you where to get in.
Yes — tell us when you book and we will adjust the menu. Our crew are experienced camp cooks, working across BBQ plates, camp ovens, gas rings and the fire itself.
Breakfast is cereal, toast, juice, tea and coffee; morning tea is fruit and something baked; lunch is wraps, salads and cold meats; dinner varies nightly and often finishes with a dessert out of the camp oven.
Yes. Every seat has USB-A and USB-C charging, and there are additional charging points on board for cameras, headphones and other small devices.
We do not supply alcohol, but you are welcome to bring your own in modest quantities — space on board is limited.
Please buy your supplies in Broome or Perth before departure. Many Aboriginal communities are dry or have alcohol restrictions, which we respect.
Vehicles & safety
The coaches, the equipment and how we prepare for remote country.
We run four purpose-built 4WD coaches with upgraded suspension for Kimberley conditions — two on the road and two held as backups, so a breakdown never ends a trip.
Inside: forward-facing reclining seats with seatbelts and individual air-conditioning vents, extra-large windows, USB charging and TV monitors in most vehicles. We carry spare parts, tyres, jacks, multiple fridges and plenty of drinking water.
Our crew hold remote first aid qualifications, and every vehicle carries a defibrillator, satellite communications, first aid kits and fire extinguishers.
We are ATAP accredited, WA National Park accredited operators, Department of Transport approved and a registered food business.
Very few. Park fees, permits, camping and most meals are all included.
Optional extras are the exception — scenic and helicopter flights, additional cruises, restaurant or homestead meals, and alcohol. Allow roughly $30 to $40 each for the two or three meals we eat out together.
Booking & payment
Deposits, payment plans and how to secure your seat.
A $500 per person deposit secures your seat, with the balance due three months before departure. Payment plans are available — just ask.
Deposits are fully refundable within the first 30 days of booking, provided you are more than 90 days out from departure. After that, cancellation charges step up as your departure approaches.
The full conditions are set out on our booking conditions page.
Broome and Perth are both served by direct flights from most Australian capitals. Book your flights once your tour seat is confirmed.
We pick up and drop off at Broome accommodation, and from selected Perth CBD hotels on the coastal tours. Tell us where you are staying and we will sort out the rest.
Choose your departure date on the tour page and send us a booking request, or make an enquiry and we will check availability for you.
No payment is taken online. We confirm your seat personally — usually within two working days — and take the deposit from there. You can also call Glenn or Jaye on 0437 142 904.
Yes, and it is a great way to see the state. Combine a coastal Perth to Broome or Broome to Perth trip with a 16 day Kimberley loop and you save $500 on the second tour.
Get in touch and we will put the dates together for you.
We do. Kimberley Safari Tours is available for 4WD charters through the Kimberley, Broome, the Gibb River Road and further afield across Australia.
Send us an enquiry with your group size and rough dates and we will come back with options.
Still have a question?
We would rather talk it through before you book than have you wondering. Call Glenn or Jaye, or send a message and we will reply within two working days.
